Not Quite 5 Minutes Yet...

Those of you who follow me on Facebook (both of you) know that I've been doing some acting as of late. I wouldn't say I have really made a significant impact, but I've had a number of gigs from January to date. Here's a smattering of what I've done that's online. There's a couple movies and TV shows that are yet to air, but I'll post those as well.

If you add all of my screen time up together, you may actually get 5 minutes... someday...

Shibuya, Tokyo - The Busiest Intersection in the World...

I've been back from Japan since June, but am still slowly cracking away at making my videos from the trip. Here's the latest from Tokyo's famous Shibuya intersection. This is widely regarded as the world's busiest intersection. Enjoy:

The Littlest Giant...

My favorite band, They Might Be Giants, recently did a revamp of their children's song "The Alphabet of Nations." They called for pictures of kids from these different countries. Naturally, I submitted pictures of Maia. And she made the cut!

Halloween 2011...

Last year for Halloween, we dressed up Maia as R2-D2, but she didn't know the difference and we didn't get many miles out of that outfit. This year, Maia is still a bit young to really understand the holiday, but we did another costume. At this age, she'll pull off any costume that she feels restricts her, so we went with the easy "Little Red Ridding Hood."

This year we also did a jack-o-lantern. Because Maia wouldn't be very helpful with a knife, we decided to only do a drawing. Mom later went ahead and cut it as well.

Maia's Missed Milestone Memorialized in Media...

Ok, so it's bound to happen. When the big milestones of Maia's life come, I'm bound to miss some, right? Well, I've already missed the first. Maia rolled over. Ok, not huge, I know. But it's our first baby, and up till now, she's hasn't moved more than an inch without our assistance. So, to see her finally do something on her own is big enough for us.

I was on a business trip when it happened. Mom also missed it. She left Maia on her back in the crib, came to check on her and noticed the achievement. Clearly, I have rubbed off on Anna, because her instinct was to grab the camera and record her doing it again. And so she did.



Unfortunately for Maia, she now suffers the same affliction as most turtles. Once she is rolled over, she is powerless to change it. Well, maybe we can record that moment...

My First 5K...

After running around my apartment parking lot for a few months now, I decided it was time to take my exercise to the next level. After a few weeks I started to clock and measure my route. It turned out I was running as much as 8k every other night.
For what ever reason, I felt the next logical step was to join an organized 5k run. I went to a local sport store and grabbed a banner for the next 5k in Guam. It happened to be just about the largest Guam has ever had.

The 5k was sponsored by Pay-Less Supermarkets, which is the largest supermarket chain in Guam. With my $5 entrance fee I got a reusable bag and a sports bottle that would be just about big enough for me to use for sacrament on Sundays.

The worst part about this 5k for me would be the time. I run at night, when it’s cool and I’ve finished dinner and rested a bit. This 5k was to start at 6am, with a show time of 5:30 or sooner. ‘nuff said.

Anna and I got up about 4:45 am and slowly got ready. It was torture. At least I had Anna with me. She refused to run it with me, but she was there for me the whole time.
I was floored when I got to the meeting point. The crowd was massive. If you take a walk around the mall’s food courts in Guam you’ll think there is not one person on island that could do 1k, let alone 5. Where were all these fit people hiding? Well, apparently not in the food courts and fast food joints I frequent.

When time comes to roll I find myself in the back of a very large multitude. I never expected to get first, but being this far back in the pack I knew would lose a good minute or two until the herd thinned out some.

I ran like I never have before. Was I fast? No, but I never stopped. I never slowed down and I never walked a foot.

Also, along the way, I took the liberty of filming the monumentous event. I got many an odd look, but the video preservation of the memory is worth it.

I came in at…well, not first place. But I did get my fastest time ever on a 5K. And I had the satisfaction of saying that I’ve done it.

But don’t just read all about it. I’ve put together a documentary style video of it all. A caution now, it’s a full length video, 22 minutes long, broken into 3 bite size pieces. If you like documentaries, you’ll enjoy this style. If not, I still want you to watch it…

Urim and ThumbTube...

So, even The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has now joined the ranks of YouTubers. Check out their new YouTube page. I think this is a good technological step forward for the Church to help get out uplifting and spiritual content on an increasingly sinful platform. At the same time, it also makes it seem like the Church is giving a big "thumbs up" to YouTube and perhaps it content, which can be quite unwholesome at times. I use YouTube for my videos, so obviously, it is not as if I have major problems with YouTube myself.

Debate aside, check out the Church's official YouTube page.

World Wide Flash Mob Event IV: Attack of the Pirates...

You might have seen on my flickr page that I had a pirate costume for Halloween. That's not entirely true. I was dressed up as a pirate just shortly after Halloween for a Geocaching activity. It's called a "Flash Mob."

A flash mob is where you suddenly have a swarm of people arrive at a place suddenly for a short time, then just as quickly as they come, they leave. It's an odd but fun thing to do. This was a flash mob tied in with a geocaching activity. I am the self-declared official videographer for the world famous Guam Geocachers. So I put together this video. I really wanted to use music from "Pirates of the Caribbean" but decided it was best to keep it royalty free. Still, I think it works. Enjoy!

My Fifteen Minutes...

My friend sent me this video. I think it's pretty darn funny. I don't support Obama and even if I wanted to vote for him, it wouldn't matter since I live in Guam where we don't' get a say in the U.S. presidential elections. Still, funny stuff, especially because I'm in it.

Bunny Vs. Boonies - Cambodia

Around Manila...

After the temple trip and we moved into our hotel, we started being tourists again. Through my co-worker's travel agency we booked a 3 day combo tour that'd give us the gist of what there was to see in Manila.

We battled traffic all day. I was disappointed in the jeepneys we saw. I was hoping the ornate decoration would give me something to look at while we were stuck in traffic. The jeepneys have become much more subdued than they used to be.



First, we saw some of the monuments. Except for the newer WWII monument in Washing DC between the Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial, this is the the only US made WWII memorial. It's also unique in that it's out of the United States.



Out of curiosity I checked for the name "Bodine." There was one, and as it turns out, I am related to him.

We also visited a memorial for a Filipino hero, Jose Rizal. He was instrumental in getting the locals to fight against the Spanish rule and toward independence. This spot is where he was executed and also is the spot where the US gave control of the Philippines back to the locals after WWII.

The guards are as stoic and statue-like here as those at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in D.C. or Buckingham Palace.

We then visited the Spanish fort where Rizal was held prisoner and sentenced to execution. Yes, the statue below is actual size.

Not to demean the memory of Rizal, he sure looks like Oddjob from the James Bond movies.

Of course, where there's Spanish rule, there's Catholicism. And that means visiting one dozen and one cathedrals. Due to heavy bombing from WWII there were only a few old enough to be considered historic. We visited two. In the oldest cathedral in the Philippines, I saw the biggest hymn books ever. How would you like to carry this to church every Sunday?

This old church with the white doves flying around give me a real John Woo vibe.

One of the new attractions in Manila is the aquarium. Having been a scuba diver in Guam for two years, much of this was familiar to me. But it was nice to see this stuff dry and without carrying gear.









Lastly, we attended a dinner show with cultural music. We've done one in every country we went to (almost). Rather than show bits and pieces of each one, I made a video summing them all up.

Office 3 Hour Tour...

So, I'm sure you have noticed that I have slowed down in blogging again. That is because I've been fast an furious making more videos. I've had office activities, personal projects and GeoCaching events to make videos for.

Bunny Vs. Boonies - Guam

This past weekend, I went on a rather tough hike (boonie stomping). To escape from the drudgery of walking, I made a video along the way. If you've ever seen the Discovery Chanel show "Man vs Wild" with Bear Grylls then you'll see some obvious parody influences.

Wedding: Cake Cutting...

This video actually is after the wedding where we cut the cake and feed it to each other. I have made a few versions of the video segment that shows the actual wedding. The one on YouTube right now is way too long. I cut it by over a minute and added some captions, but I'll have to wait to upload that until I get back from my second wedding in Vietnam.

This is a video that I put together for our second wedding in Vietnam. Anna's real name is Ngoc. If I put "Anna" in the video, they wouldn't know who I'm talking about. Anna didn't like some of the pics and videos I used, so I have since made a second version, but I don't care enough to post it. Here it is for your enjoyment. Other bits of our wedding video to be posted piece by piece.
