Music in Your Head, with Trekz Titanium safe headphones...

I finally found safe headphones that look, sound and work great, finally.

I've always been on the hunt for good headphones. I have a dozen around my house at any time, much to the chagrin of my wife. I suppose I'm always looking for that perfect sound, and not quite finding it. For every positive, there's a flip-side of problems with headphones.

  • The problem with ear buds is that they can be uncomfortable and cause fatigue.
  • The problem with over-the-ear headphones is that they get hot and sweaty and are cumbersome to carry around.
  • The problem with corded headphones is that the cord gets in the way.
  • The problem with Bluetooth is the sound is potentially less full range.
  • The problem with noise cancelling headphones is that effect can damage your hearing with prolonged use.
  • The problem with noise isolating headphones is that you may be unaware of important ambient sounds around you.
  • The problem with neither noise cancelling or isolating headphones is that you are then less likely to hear the music well.
Well, now I think I may have just found the solution to these problems and more. Introducing
Trekz Titanium
the new Trekz Titanium by AfterShokz!

These use a new and booming technology called "bone conduction." Basically, rather than sit on your ear, these sit in front of your ear and pulse the beats through your bones to the base of your ears!

I've been using bone conduction for years, but in a different way. If you've ever used a Jawbone Bluetooth handsfree headset, you have too. That used bone conduction to send sound out. This uses the same technology to send it in.

It's safer, too. Why? Because 1) you can't damage your ear drum with loud music and 2) you won't be cut off from the ambient sounds around you. You can hear the music clearly, and also what is going on around you as needed.

These have a great bluetooth driven wonders last 6 hours on a charge, are water and sweat resistant and include perks like dual noise canceling mics, voice prompts, smartphone integration and a 2-year warranty.

Check out this cool video about them:

I already ordered mine. This is not available to the public yet, so if you are interested, you can go through me.

Sometimes I Feel Like, Someone Is Watching Me...

How do you know when the Feds are just outside spying on you? Here's an easy way to tell. Using any wi-fi enabled device, search for available networks. If you see "FBI Surveillance Van" you might just wonder what the nonchalant flower delivery truck across the street is up to.
And best of all, the network isn't even secured, so you may get some free internet access out of it...

Your Friendly Neighborhood A+ Remote Support Technician...

I read an interesting news article that narcissism is on the rise. Blogs, YouTube, twitters and the like are blamed for it. Funny enough, one of the first things I wanted to do when I passed my latest certification exam was blog it.

So, everybody admire me!

Anna pointed out that I did not yet get a certification that I was halfway through. It is a two part test and I needed to take the second part. Now that I have one year left before I switch modes to Facilities Management and leave IT behind, it's now or never.

I signed up with one week to study. I casually looked at some study material, did some last minute cramming last night and as of 10:30am this morning became the latest person to join the ranks of certified CompTIA A+ Remote Support Technicians. And just to emphasize how great I am, guess how well I did... Go ahead, guess.

I got 874 out of 900. My math may be wrong, but I believe that's just a touch over 97%. Yeah, it's easy to be narcissistic when you are me...

Hijacked...

I can't believe it. I've been hijacked. No, not my car or air plane. My website, JaredBodine.com! I'm not very thrilled. If you check it out now you'll see what I mean. I still haven't quite figured out the extent of the damage, but I know they've wiped away all of the photos from my site, and who knows what else. I'll have to rebuild my site now. Ick. I'm getting tired of html development.

Anyway, since I'm sure this post will last longer I'll post a screen shot of what it looks like so when I fix my site, you'll get to see what I'm talking about.

A screen shot of what my hacked website looked like

Believe it or not, this is quite common these days. I've been reading about this. The Arab nation isn't the only place these people are coming from, either. And there's not much I could do about it. My hosting server was hacked, not my user account, so I probably should have some choice words with my hosts.

Anyway, be vigilant if you own a site. And make sure you have the whole site backed up, so you can just copy it back when this kind of stuff happens.

Looks like I'll be back to the drawing board...

Making 3D Photo Worlds is a Synth...

I'm not one to blindly (and without profit) plug a site or service. But thought this one was cool and I can also show off my work.

Microsoft recently created a new site called Photosynth. Long story short, it takes a huge heaping of photos from a given locale or scene, blends them together where they overlap and creates a "walk through" of them. Not quite a true 3D expirence, but still pretty cool. In order to really get it, you have to go there.

That being said, I've already made two. Both come from Saipan. When I was there I took a lot of pics of The Last Outpost and The Grotto. Check them out.

Also, it should be noted that this being a Microsoft project, there are catches. First, you must download and install yet another plugin. As if having to get Silverlight, Adobe Flash, Adobe Shockwave and all those others wasn't a pain enough. And second, this only works on Windows XP and Visa. Sorry Mac, your cool scruffy image that needs a haircut can't join in the party. Sucker...
